Why is Loch Uaine green?
An Lochan Uaine – named the ‘Green Loch’ by locals – is one of the most beautiful of the many lochs in the Aviemore area. The green appearance of the loch is likely caused by reflected light from the trees that line it, although the legend is that it takes on that colour because pixies wash their clothes in it.

The magnificent walk from Cairn Toul to Braeriach follows the edge of a vast plateau around the Cairngorms’ most spectacular corries. It is also exceptionally remote and arduous; many will break the route with an overnight stay at Corrour bothy.
How long is the Aviemore to Linn of Dee walk?
I chose to start at Linn of Dee, through Glen Lui, and finish at Aviemore, which was a total of some 39km. This included the 1km out-and-back detour to visit Corrour Bothy, located below Coire Odhar and between the Munros, The Devil’s Point and Cairn Toul.
How do I get to the Cairngorms?
Day one – Linn of Dee (grid ref. NO063897) is the gateway to the main Cairngorm massif from the south. It can either be walked from Braemar (6 miles) along a spectacular valley, or for the purpose of this walk there is a very large car park near the bridge where you can securely park for a fee.
